بموجب هذا العقد، تم الاتفاق بين الطرفين على ما يلي Explanation: Thank you very much, Laila, for the repost. It is much clearer now. I have deleted the first post to eliminate redundancy. Here is my answer: The expression "Now this Witnesseth and it is hereby agreed as follows" is a formulaic introduction to the terms of a typical contract. The words mean "This [contract] is evidence that the two parties have agreed upon the following." In translating this expression, you need not translate the words themselves. You only need to use the equivalent expression used in Arabic contracts, which is typically: بموجب هذا العقد، تم الاتفاق بين الطرفين على ما يلي Here is an example of a Saudi Arabian contract: http://www.commerce.gov.sa/procedures/1-31.asp?print=true Fuad -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2003-01-30 12:23:34 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- For the word \"Now,\" which serve as a transition from the preamble to the sentence, I would use بناء عليه -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2003-01-30 12:27:01 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I have just noticed that in the repost, you have inserted the word \"agreement\" (\"Now this Agreement Witnesseth\"). For the sake of lexical accuracy, you may want to use بموجب هذه الاتفاقية instead of بموجب هذا العقد although I have seen the two terms freely interchanged.
