What is the suitable Arabic translation for the verb "patented" in the following context:

(THIS TREE MATURED AND IT PRODUCED PRODIGIOUS AMOUNTS OF A RICH, FLAVORFUL FRUIT THAT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER AVOCADOS IN THE AREA THAT "HASS" FINALLY PATENTED THE ACTUAL VARIETY.)

I think When he patent a tree or the produce of his tree, we can say طلب تسجيل براءة اختراع
I can't find the right words here.
