English term or phrase: set an early standard
Dear all,

It's about sports and competition, one of the competitors "sets an early standard"

Is it positive or negative? How we can render it into Arabic?

Thanks.

'يضع معيار مبكر 'لاداء عال المستوى
Explanation:
set: to present as a model of good or bad behaviour (esp in the phrases set an example, set a good example, set a bad example )

But in your case it is 'standard' and in my opinion it is more likely to be positive. Within the context that you have explained, I think it means that the competitor's performance was of a high standard at the beginning of the competition. Hence the 'early standard.'

In my opinion, it is أولي which means that the competitor will do his best to win.

Asker: Can you kindly give me an example for both? Please.

Asker: Also why أولي and not مبكراً ?

Asker: No, It doesn't help. I can't get the difference bet. أولي and مبكر Second; It was said by an announcer commenting on a kayaking championship. That was the only thing he said about this competitor! So I don't know if it's good or bad.

Asker: Thanks.
