QUBBA'A, BURNAITA,, QULUNSUWA, or KABBOOS Explanation: QUBBA'A is commonly used in formal writing in reference to Western-style hats. BURNAITA is commonly used in informal conversations (and in some writings) in reference to Western-style hats. It is possibly a corrupted pronunciation of "bonnet," "beret," or a combination of both. QULUNSUWA comes from a medieval Persian origin. It has been used by Arabs for so long it almost sounds Arabic. Of course it does not refer to Western style-hats, but some modern Arabic purists seem to think it more dignified than QUBBA'A or BURNAITA. Last but not least, in the Persian Gulf area, the most common word for western-style hat is KABBOOS. The term probably comes from "cap" or "capuche."
