Operació d'acabament a la qual són sotmeses les peces mecanitzades, especialment les que han estat trempades i tenen una tolerància acceptada molt baixa, per tal de corregir definitivament les irregularitats de caràcter geomètric de llurs superfícies, tant si són planes com si són cilíndriques o còniques, tant si són interiors com exteriors, acanalades, roscades, etc, per l'acció d'una mola damunt d'elles. Aquesta operació és efectuada en les màquines anomenades rectificadores. Amb la rectificació, hom pot obtenir acabaments de peces amb una tolerància compresa entre un centèsim i un mil·lèsim de mil·límetre.
