Estic traduint un text d'una revista que parla del moviment estudiantil d'Eslovènia a principis dels setanta. El passatge en concret parla de com els estudiants lluitaven contra el règim comunista fent oposició des dins. Diu això:

"We attempted to lean on certain things that the regime kept in its paroles in a declarative manner, and use them against the regime".

No entenc què vol dir "keep in its paroles", ni ho documento enlloc. Si em podeu ajudar a entendre el sentit de la frase us estaré molt agraïda :)

crec que ha de voler dir que el règim es comprometia de paraula o que prometia que faria certes coses però que no complia les seves promeses, i que els estudiants ho utilitzaven per pressionar el règim (suposo que retraient-li que no complia). A l'enllaç que adjunto hi ha la definició d'aquest sentit del terme "parole" en anglès.

neutral  Berni Armstrong: While you are probably right, the original is written in terrible English. "We attempted to lean on the regime by insisting that they kept to their word" might have been what the author was trying to say, but that is not what they have written.
