在葉片中，輸送水分和養分的部位叫做葉脈。葉脈指葉面上葉脈的分布情形，位於葉身中央，多與葉柄連結者，或葉身中央由葉基至葉身頂端之主肋稱之為「中肋」。由中肋再分枝至葉緣之脈稱為「第一側脈」或稱「主側脈」，由主側脈可再細分更小的葉脈叫細脈。
