TCP's inherent architecture dictates that for each packet sent by the source, an ACK is replied by the destination. While this is not a problem in symmetrical networks, in asymmetrical networks this technique may cause the smaller of the asymmetrical flows to be overly congested with ACKs. TCP Acceleration gets around this problem by acknowledging a subset of packets in the transfer.
