English term or phrase: good luck
My son is living in Shanghai and this is the name he has chosen for himself ...
Hao Yun (good luck) I would like to see the characters. I have found them on other sites but the type is so small I cannot see them clearly and obviously cannot reproduce it.

agree  moken: Ni hao Jianjun. Thanks for checking. I really have no idea, I only got involved because the Q was orginally posted in the ES>EN pair. :O) :O)

buena suerte (literal), afortunado (free), Fortunato (real name)

Explanation:
Hi frances. Not quite sure of the target language - Spanish I assume?

Ok, literally "good luck" is "buena suerte".

Thinking this might be something more along the lines of "Lucky", this would be "Afortunado".

However, there is a real Spanish name which I think/assume would mean pretty much the same, "Fortunato".

Good luck!

Hi again Frances. This is obviously not my language pair, but I found a web page with the name in Pinyin followed by Chinese characters.

I have copied and pasted the text onto a Word doc and can enlarge font size (probably even colour too), so you should be able to do so too. Since I don't have the slightest idea of Chinese beyond ni hao or two or three words more, I'll try to check with Jianjun or other Chinese speakers to see if this version is correct.

Good luck!

The context (try to copy and paste from here and if not, go to the original link):

"According to Hsü Tsung-tse (Xu Zongze 1949, p. 321), prefaces were also written by Zhang Wenda 張問達, Wang Zheng and Han Yun 韓雲"

Ok, I see that copying it here doesn't keep the format, so go to the web page referred and try to do it. It should work!

neutral  Jianjun Zhang: Yes. the characters are right in Traditional Chinese. Hope this helps ;)
1 hr
-> I hope so too. I spent two weeks in China last year; barely enough time to learn a handful of words in Pinyin and that people taking their index and middle finger to their mouths were asking if I wanted to eat, not whether I had a cigarrette! :O) :O)
