牛逼

Explanation:
Some Chinese colleagues have been discussing a Chinese expression for a "newbie." One of them come up with "big shot" for such an important and influential person as "newbie," written in Chinese as 牛逼.

This expression is a real slang in Chinese, very pejorative. Be careful in using it. You might get hurt by calling someone a "newbie."

Oh, the someone was the one who provides another answer as "大腕."

I guess he wants to save your life with a more harmless expression, which is though not a slang.

For "newbie," I guess he would be able to explain more for you.

agree  orientalhorizon: some people may so, as one of my colleagues from the northeast does.

-> Thanks. If "big shot" should be someone who is really important and influential, I think "大腕" would be more appropriate, though it is not in slang. I wonder whether "牛逼" should be more appropriate for "hot shot" or not. Let's see how natives would pick.
