Analogno, postoje međunarodni elektrotehnički standard IEC (eng. International Electrotechnical Committee, tj. međunarodno elektrotehničko povjerenstvo) i europski CENELEC - European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) ili Europski odbor za elektrotehničku normizaciju. http://www.hzn.hr/ To su međunarodni standardi za razliku od NEC-a koji se isključivo primjenjuje u SAD-u, kao što u Kanadi postoji CNEC - Canadian National Electrical Code.
