English term or phrase: double header
Page 5, line 3 in Philip Roths new novel "The Plot against America" contains the expression: "... my affinity to the Fourth of July ... or the Decoration Day double header."

I have found out that the expression could mean: two sport events in a row(probably basebold - this is America 1938). But can one imagine watching two baseball games in a row?

Yes, indeed

Explanation:
A lot of people wouldn't mind at all to watch two games for the price of one. These arrangements are even today held on occasion. Mainly at (American) football and rugby matches in both USA and Australia. Baseball sounds the most likely back in 1938.
