Het gaat om een mechanisme waarbij sommige gebeurtenissen zich in een andere tijd afspelen dan andere gebeurtenissen. Door bijvoorbeeld nu iets te doen of na te laten, kun je in de toekomst kapitaal accumuleren.


Intertemporeel is ... tussen de tijd, tussen twee tijden in. Intertemporele ruil is dus iets ruilen met twee verschillende tijdstippen.
