Gouverneur lijkt me daar de beste vertaling voor. Als ik op Historiek.net kijk, zie ik echter dat George Carteret (Lord Proprietor van New Jersey) daar als "beschermeling" wordt aangeduid. | lord proprietary grondbezitter Explanation: Ik heb nog even zitten googlen naar Nederlandse teksten die over een "Lord Proprietor" gaan. Naar aanleiding daarvan zou ik voorstellen om de term grondbezitter te gebruiken. Dat dekt de lading het beste waarschijnlijk. Misschien zelfs "grootgrondbezitter"- dat klinkt wat adelijker :-) |
