agree  Kitty Brussaard: Dit is op zich correct. Volgens mij heeft de term echter ook vaak de strekking van 'ondersteunende functies' (in ieder geval in UK English). Dat past wellicht beter in deze specifieke context.

  -> Ja, heel goed. Ik denk inderdaad dat het intussen ook gebruikt wordt om het onderscheid tussen management en ondersteunende functies te maken, de arbeidsvoorwaarden hangen daar globaal mee samen (management geen overuren)

agree  Philine Veldhuijsen: Ik kan dit bevestigen uit ervaring bij IBM UK. Vanaf 'band 8' werd je 'exempt', geen overuren meer, maar wel het niveau dat verbonden was aan managementfuncties of professionele functies. Het leukste was dat je dat niveau een 'company car' kreeg.
