Dit begrip komt voor in een medisch verslag gericht aan de patiënt:

You should consider testing for environmental toxins and Lyme disease (om met meer zekerheid een diagnose te kunnen stellen).

Milieutoxines vind ik op een aantal websites terug maar daaronder zitten naar mijn idee vrij weinig betrouwbare / gezaghebbende sites. De term komt niet meer voor in de rest van het document, maar ik neem aan dat het gaat om toxines die met het eten / drinken / ademen e.d. mee opgenomen worden in het lichaam. N.B. Dat is dus alleen mijn interpretatie.

Marjolein, het is nodig dat ik het volgende verder vermeld / toevoeg vanwege 'toxische stoffen' vs 'toxinen'

'toxinen' zijn strikt genomen producten van micro-organismen maar mijn veronderstelling was dat hier niet alleen naar toxinen wordt verwezen maar naar toxische stoffen in het algemeen, dat is juist de reden dat ik 'toxinen' heb vermeden

Lianne van de Ven: Op zijn best "uit" de omgeving, omdat het gaat om testen voor aanwezigheid van deze stoffen in het lichaam//Ik vind milieu ook een belangrijke toevoeging.

-> Wat 'uit' betreft 'ja', maar verder geef ik - in deze context - duidelijk de voorkeur aan 'toxische stoffen' : testen op toxische stoffen uit de omgeving/het milieu. / Milieu and toxische stoffen zijn meer broer en zus dan omgeving en toxische stoffen.

Kitty Brussaard: Dit vind ik inderdaad het best passen in de context van een medisch verslag: toxische stoffen uit de omgeving c.q. het milieu. Ook wel: toxines uit de omgeving c.q. het milieu. / OK, zo had ik het nog niet bekeken :-)

-> Ja, 'testen op toxische stoffen uit etc.' past en klinkt goed hier. Ik zou 'toxinen' echter willen vermijden omdat dat de situatie beperkt tot micro-organismen, wat naar mijn mening hier niet juist en ook onwaarschijnlijker zou zijn. Zie toevoeging.
