Freek en Barend wijzen er terecht op dat er eigenlijk 'has' had moeten staan i.p.v. 'have'. De opmerking die ik maakte bij de bijdrage van Lianne is dus eigenlijk niet correct. Grammaticaal is er wel degelijk iets mis met die laatste (dubbele) zin. Het valt mij echter op dat er in het Engels (en vooral de US-variant) tegenwoordig vaak wordt gezondigd tegen die zogeheten SHIT-regel voor de derde persoon enkelvoud in de tegenwoordige tijd. Naar mijn gevoel is daar ook hier sprake van. Hoewel ik -- behalve vertaler ook docent Engels -- beter had moeten weten, ben ik er zelf ook ingetrapt ;-)

als 'the insurance of' betrekking had op 'clinical trial', 'sponsor' en 'study investigator' zou er hebben moeten staan 'HAS been assured'

(Bovendien zou ik dan verwachten 'for this clinical trial')

(Bovendien is 'The insurance has (have) been assured' merkwaardig)

Maar dat staat er niet.

'have been assured' hoort bij 'sponsor and study investigator'

Misschien moet je het zo lezen.

"The insurance of this clinical trial," kan WEG, lijkt mij een restant van copy-paste. Dus als je dit weglaat heeft die hoofdletter "S" ook zin. Er wordt nogmaals benadrukt dat het hele zaakje is verzekerd, ZIE OOK bijlage 2! (het bewijs)

"assured" kan ook nog de "verzekerde" betekenen (?)

Waarom is het Sponsor? Mist daar een heel deel van de vorige zin? En wat doet die komma daar achter trial?

ANNEX 2: INSURANCE FOR STUDY SUBJECTS

Insurance has been arranged for the participants in this study. This insurance covers loss due to death or injury that is the result of participating in the study and which manifests while taking part in the study or within 4 years after the end of participation in the study. The loss is deemed to have become manifest when it is reported to the insurer.
