Ik hou van jou Explanation: and if you want to be very polite (but I don't think there's any need for that), you'd have to say 'Ik houd van U', because the verb is 'houden van' - 1st p. singular = ik houd van (not 'hou') you: pluralis: = U Hardly anyone uses this over here in Flanders (and in such situations), hence you're better off with 'ik hou van jou'. Have a ball, no references needed - native speaker HTH |

ik zie u graag... Explanation: ... is the most commonly used, 'really Flemish' way to say I love you. You can whisper it in your lover's ear, but you could also say about your children that 'ik zie mijn kinderen graag'. 'ik hou van jou' is widely used, but might just as well be Dutch. 'ik hou van u' (never 'ik houD van u'!!!) is also 'real' Flemish. It is the title of a well-known Flemish song, written for a flemish movie a couple of years ago. |

ik zie u geern Explanation: "Ik zie u geern" is the Flemish colloquial. If you want to write in standard writing language it will be the Dutch "ik hou van jou". (As you probably know Flemish is more a variety of Dutch then a separate language) Native Dutch speaker born an raised close to the Belgian / Dutch border with relatives and friends on both sides. |

Sorry guys, but ''k zie je geern..." is not what we use over here in letters Explanation: I'm cleaning up the site a bit and noticed this translation "'k zie je geern'" (and other similar alternatives). We're no longer living in the mid 20th century. "'k Zie je geern etc" is dialect (colloquial) and used to be OK in letters about 50-60 years ago. 'Ik hou van jou' or 'ik zie je/u graag' is what should be used. |
