Greffier adjoint Explanation: I have a couple of French birth certificates using this title. However, I would not translate registrar as "registre" but rather as "greffier" (unless you have some reason not to) or "officier de l'etat civil." But greffier is the commonly used term, and the "greffe" is the registry of marriages/births/deaths, etc. Or you use "Service de l'etat civil" as register office, and "officier de l'etat civil" as registrar.
