English term or phrase: Sub-registrar of marriages
Hi!

I am translating a marriage certificate from India and am not sure how to translate "Sub-registrar" of marriages. I guess this is a deputy registrar in addition to the main registrar. Can I translate it as "Sous-registre", "Adjoint au registre"?

Any help/suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks!

Greffier adjoint

Explanation:
I have a couple of French birth certificates using this title. However, I would not translate registrar as "registre" but rather as "greffier" (unless you have some reason not to) or "officier de l'etat civil." But greffier is the commonly used term, and the "greffe" is the registry of marriages/births/deaths, etc. Or you use "Service de l'etat civil" as register office, and "officier de l'etat civil" as registrar.

Example sentence(s):
  • Présent au sein des juridictions de l’ordre judiciaire, le greffier assiste le juge et authentifie les actes juridictionnels.
