English term or phrase: walked into a wheel
La phrase est la suivante: "You walked into a big wheel, and Mr pays you full wages ever since..."

neutral  Felicite Robertson: There were quite a few mills in Pittsburgh featured in 1945. Could that be the big wheel? Could the man have lost his legs in an accident at a mill?

crushing - tournoyer

Explanation:
I don't want to be too morbid but could you not try to use the image of the crushing of the corn - or the image of wings often used for mills in French - "Quand l'un tournoie comme les ailes d'un moulin"
