'inch per inch' 18:52 Jun 29, 2018
This way of expressing things is used with a specific meaning in certain fields, one of which is, for example, surface flatness. What puzzles and makes me doubt here is that such specifications are usually given with figures, such as "1 cm per 2 metres"; also like the old system of describing inclines in the UK "1 in 16" etc. So if this had been, say "0.01 inch per inch", I would have understood it as a surface flatness or similar measurement. Hence why, and I insist, it is not the same thing as "inch by inch" and should not be interpreted as such (unless, of course, additional context is forthcoming to corroborate!) |
