Reference Reference information: "Die Casting Tools and toys are often made with the die casting process. Molten metal is poured or injected into dies and allowed to cool. The die is then removed, and the product is ready for finishing. Die casting is a relatively fast process, which allows for faster production. It is not as refined as the moulding process, and die cast objects may not be as strong as products made with an injected mould." https://www.ehow.com/info_7983435_difference-between-dies-mo... ... "I have two different suppliers and different manufacturing processes for the same aluminium part on the rail industry: A) Sand Casting, uses a mold. B) Gravity (Die) Casting, uses a metal Die. Both are melted, one conforms the melted aluminium inside a sand mold, the second does it inside a metal die. So actually, here a die its used for a liquid metal... If it was injected casted aluminium, its called a mold, some call it a die. If it was injected thermoplastic (and technology is very similar in principle) its called a mold. I also have worked for the Automotive Industry, and when you need to shape a metal steel into a car body, I believe its called a Die, as in fact, its not dealing with liquid but shaping a solid. This is why I mean its not a straight forward answer, considering having the exact same casting part done with a Mold vs a Die." https://www.quora.com/Mechanical-Engineering-What-is-the-dif... https://www.quora.com/Mechanical-Engineering-What-is-the-difference-between-Mould-and-Die https://www.ehow.com/info_7983435_difference-between-dies-moulds.html |
