Player vs Environment (PVE) Definition from own experience or research: All French gamers definitely know what PVE means and use the English abbreviation. In most video games, you speak in French of PVE when you fight against AI (i.e. often against monsters, or in dungeons or quests etc.) and of PVP (Player vs player) when you fight against other gamers. Example sentence(s):
Explanation: In some games, you might just speak of "PVM" (Player vs Monster). PVM can be used as a synonym of PVE, even if its definition is somewhat more restrictive (as it should in theory only refer to fights against monsters...). E.g. the term "PVM" is commonly accepted in the French MMORPG "Dofus" community. People usually don't use the term "PVE" in that game. But I'd say from my experience that it is an exception. |
