Itemization can be defined as the relationship between balance and uniqueness of items. Items in this context will be defined as customization options, a sort of customization that a player can use to see progress they have made. This customization does not have to be visual, but can also appear in the form of player stats. Items can also be used as tools to progress through the game. More specifically, itemization is the process of defining what an item does.

Éventuellement 'choix de l'équipement' au singulier ou 'itémisation'.

On parle parfois d'itémisation en français, mais je n'irais pas jusqu'à dire que le terme est courant, il sonne beaucoup plus comme un pur anglicisme que d'autres termes anglais issus du gaming qui ont été clairement adoptés dans le milieu du gaming francophone. La meilleure façon de désigner ce concept est sans doute de parler de 'choix des équipements'.

Un équipement est un objet que l'on équipe ou utilise pour modifier ses caractéristiques (taper plus fort, mieux soigner, tanker plus longtemps...). 'Itémiser', c'est faire le choix des équipements adéquats sur un personnage pour qu'il puisse accomplir son rôle efficacement dans le jeu.

On ne va par exemple pas donner des équipements augmentant les caractéristiques de soin à un personnage si sa vocation est de taper fort, il s'agirait d'un mauvais choix d'équipements.
