L'article de wikipédia en espagnol sur le sujet (ref 1) dit :
El Montseny (que significa algo así como El monte señal ya que se avistaba desde el mar, en catalán)
-> Le Montseny (ce qui signifie en catalan quelque chose comme le Mont-Signal, car il s'apercevait vu de la mer.

Il servait donc de répère maritime, un peu comme un phare
