Voilà, j'ai un jeu de mots costaud à traduire...
Si quelqu'un a une idée...
"They call it Iceland, but it's really green. That's because Greenland was already taken. Which is funny, because Greenland is all covered in ice. Maybe someday, the two can trade names."

Donc on a l'Islande (Ice = glace) qui est très verte (green) et qui devrait s'appeler Greenland (Groenland), car en plus, le Groenland est recouvert de glace (Ice)... Sachant que je ne peux pas changer le nom des pays, car c'est le sujet du texte...

Explanation:
Le pays s'appelle l'Islande où le pays de la glace mais en réalité il s'agit d'un pays très vert. Le "pays vert", le Groenland, existant déjà, il a cependant fallu (lui) trouver un autre nom. Histoire coquasse en l'occurrence car le Groenland est recouvert de glace. Faudrait peut-être un jour qu'ils fassent un échange standard.

agree  Pierre Souris: votre réponse a le mérite de traduire in extenso la question du demandeur. Historiquement parlant je crois bien que les Vikings, parlant le norse à l'époque, ont découvert l'Islande avant le Groenland, en l'occurrence grâce à Erik le Rouge (sa tignasse)

En effet, pas facile du tout... Je suggère :
Ils l’appellent Terre de glace (Islande), mais en fait c’est un pays verdoyant. Ils ont choisi ce nom car « Terre verte » (Groenland) était déjà pris. C’est amusant parce que la « Terre verte » est recouverte de glace. Peut-être qu’un jour, ces deux pays échangeront leurs noms.
