From a geological report into an area to be drilled for oil:

"grès jaunâtre à grains moyens et grossiers, dur et compact, on observe un litage selon la disposition des dépôts de débris de coquilles fossiles"

I found the following definition on the internet, but can anyone tell me what the term is in English please?

"disposition de roches sédimentaires en lits (couches) successifs distincts, centimétrique à décimétriques."

agree  Patrick Debray: stratification et litage sont des notions voisines, litage est en général plus fin ; ex. litage = bedding et stratification entrecroisée = cross bedding ; les defs anglaises de bedding et stratification sont très voisines
