Bonjour,

dans le cadre de son travail sur l'Isotype et la présentation de données statistiques (cf http://wirtschaftsmuseum.at/pdf/Atlas_Neurath_Gesellschaft_u... ou encore http://www.isotyperevisited.org/2010/09/isotype-revisited.ht... Otto Neurath explique pourquoi les symboles sont présentés en lignes et comment il aime que les données soient bien agencées et forment un groupe homogène. Il décrit ainsi l'approche qu'il a clairement choisi de ne pas adopter :

"This is certainly worth noticing, but a stepped arrangement of symbols in rows of one, two and five would not give the impression of a complete group and would not show that the later number is twice that of the earlier year."

Ce que Neurath décrit ici pourrait-il être désigné comme un arrangement, un agencement ou une organisation "en escalier"?

Explanation:
Je pense que plus qu'un terme, il faut rendre l'idée. Neurat veut, à mon avis, que pour rendre une valeur (par ex. 50 soldats) les symboles soient disposés les uns à côtés de autres et en une seule ligne plutôt que "superposés" (l'image qu'il donne 1, 2, 5 fait d'ailleurs penser à une disposition pyramidale). Donc, je dirais "agencement/disposition étagé(e)" ou, par une paraphrase, rendre l'idée de "superposition". Le document que vous donnez en lien montre bien cette disposition en "ligne" pour rendre la quantité.
