Before asking whewther it is correct to translate 'caretaker' as 'guardien', I think it would be helpful to ask whether 'caretaker' is the best term in English. And if it has been carefully chosen by the author, ask why 'caretaker' and not, for example, 'guardian' or 'tutor'? And all the more so because this is not a normal use of 'caretaker' (person who looks after a building) and the author seems to have avoided using all the 'formal' terms that might have been used (others would include 'carer', ...), giving preference to a somewhat unusual use of 'caretaker'. |
