English to French translations [PRO]
Marketing - Media / Multimedia
English term or phrase: insights
The sentence is :
"Social media marketing can [...] be an excellent source of contacts and insights, depending on how you use it."

I was thinking about translating "insights" by "informations" in French.
What do you think about the translation ? Does anyone have a better idea ? Thanks in advance.

précieux renseignements (qui vous éclairent sur...)

Explanation:
I keep having to translate this - this is corporate jargon (even though the word 'insights' is also common). I usually go for 'vous livre de précieux renseignements/de précieuses informations sur' or 'vous fournit des données qui vous éclairent sur...'

This sometimes also refers to analytics, i.e. figures.

Note the word 'insights' is also used in French (by those zealous business people who think using English words is all the rage.)

données marketing intéressantes

Explanation:
"marketing" pouvant être omis surtout si vous utilisez déjà le terme pour traduire "Social media marketing"

j'allais opter pour "pertinentes" à la place d'intéressantes , mais vu la valeur conditionnelle de la fin de la phrase, "depending on how you use it", ce serait une sur-traduction présomptueuse que de les qualifier d'emblée de "pertinentes".

aperçus / perceptions

Explanation:
Insights are more intangible than "informations". They are the result of the person having the insight intelligently interacting with the information they have access to, while exercising their imagination.

neutral  Antoine Guillemain: Mhmm you're thinking of 'insight' in a more general meaning, e.g. 'it gives us an insight into...'. But 'business insights' very much refers to data, often enabled by smart technology. See here: https://blog.walkerinfo.com/blog/extracting-business-insight
