are already excluded for being by definition "experimental" so "uncontrolled treatment" must be an exclusion from policy cover on some other grounds that has nothing to do with clinical trials.

"traitement non suivi (par un médecin)" sounds like a very plausible reason to exclude it from insurance cover.

repeated all over again in an endless number of health insurance policies - policies meant for the general population NOT for participants in any kind of clinical trial.

Clinical trials - with or without a "control group" are NOT covered by this type of insurance, there are special insurances for clinical trials.

Anyway, whether there is or not a "control group" doesn't change a iota the fact that what is being "tried" is untested and certainly not "customary or traditional or commonly accepted by medical authorities".

If this exclusion clause was about clinical trials ALL clinical trials would be excluded - the fact that there is a "control group" doesn't make them any safer nor less "experimental".

If you try to interpret it as "only treatment confirmed through controlled clinical trials" would be covered by this health insurance policy - that wouldn't work either. There are established treatments that have ever only been "empirically" tested.
