Here is the sentence:
In order to obtain accurate volume measurements, it is necessary to pick up edges—known in the industry as “toes and crests”—as well as heaps.

En fait toute la phrase me pose problème. Il s'agit d'une mine à ciel ouvert, dont l'exploitation est donc en gradins. J'ai longuement recherché sur internet et d'après ce que j'ai trouvé "Toes and crests" correspondent au "pied et à la crête" du gradin (sans garantie à 100%) mais d'après le schéma sur ce site 'http://www.araa.asn.au/acra/acra2010/papers/pap116s1-file1.p... it makes sense. Mais pour heaps, je ne vois pas. Tas me semble un peu simple dans la phrase
