neutral  Antoine Guillemain: J'aime bien "coupe très grossière". Il me semble que "taillé à la serpe" se réfère plutôt à un corps ou à un visage (cf. http://www.cnrtl.fr/definition/serpe ) ; par ailleurs la "coupe" ne peut pas être "taillée", ce sont les cheveux qui le sont ;)

agree  Antoine Guillemain: C'est aussi ma solution préférée. Le problème, c'est que ça s'enchaîne mal avec la phrase prédédente. Si on a quelque chose du genre "Elle avait les cheveux roussâtres et coupés court. Un travail aux ciseaux de cuisine.", ça ne fonctionne pas.

disagree  Tony M: That's not what the source expression means here; in EN too, we'd call that ' pudding-basin haircut'; but that's not what the source text here is talking about. / 'clumpy' does not suggest this style at all.
