Je crois que dans ce cas, il faut extrapoler en français et citer l'anglais entre parenthèses; il s'agit bien d'une méthode/technique en soi, visant à l'externalisation des émotions et au contrôle de l'anxiété ou tout autre trouble.
Aussi utilisée sous une autre forme pour les personnes ayant subi une amputation (question de réapprentissage de l'image grâce à la "thérapie par le miroir", mais on s'éloigne...).

Un exemple: "La méthode du miroir, devenue maintenant classique, consiste à demander à l’enfant de se mettre tous les jours devant une glace pendant un temps très court qu’il augmentera de lui-même chaque jour pour apprendre à se contrôler."
