Tech/Engineering - Automation & Robotics / distance sensor
English term or phrase: skirt
Im Rahmen der Beschreibung eines "Layer-Pickers" (Automat für lagenweise Entnahmen von einer Palette)
wird ein "distance sensor" beschrieben:

"Distance sensor ***(skirt*** position)

When the ***skirt*** is in top, it is important that the distance between the “mirror” and the sensor is min. 100 mm."

Was könnte hier gemeint sein?

Haube
Explanation:

Reference information:
Further to Uta's link, I did some research into the Danish company Univeyor (or Qubiqa) and their patents for layer pickers. The technology appears to be similar to that of air cushions and lift skirts as used in hovercrafts.

From the Qubiqa website (with a very good image):
Layer Picker Technology
Patented technology enables the Qubiqa Layer Picker to handle entire layers of any product which has a flat base.
2. Inflatable and height-adjustable "side skirts" carefully but efficiently press the layer against the top of the vacuum chamber.
(The Danish original is "sideskørter")

Here is an extract from one of the patents:
US6802688
Apparatus for handling layers of palletized goods
[0039] In FIG. 4, the lift head 6 is lowered around a pallet layer 42 of regular, box-shaped items in such a way that the suction face 40 just contacts the upper side of the pallet layer 42. This is surrounded by a special vertically adjustable, outer squeezing arrangement 44 which at each of the outer sides of the suction face comprises a number of inflatable bags 46 together with an inner skirt 48 and outer skirt 50.
[0040] The squeezing arrangement 44 which exerts inwardly directed pressure is surrounded by an outer skirt or a casing 52 arranged for absorbing the reaction pressure of the inflatable bags 46 which provide squeezing action when the bags are inflated and exerts an inwardly directed squeezing pressure on the outer sides of the pallet layer 42. Vertical adjustment of the squeezing arrangement 44, depending on the height of the actual goods in the pallet layer, occurs by means of preferably a motor driven winch 54 and lift slings 56 at each side of the lift head 6.

This patent has been translated into German and the translator has used the terms "Quetschanordnung 44", "Quetschbeutel 46", "Schürze 48, 50". See paragraphs [36] and [37]
