German translation: Baumbestimmung

English term or phrase: tree identification event
This is from a scientist talking about his past efforts, and he won the "tree identification event at the 1996 Science Olympiad". Hmmm... can I translate that as "Baumbestimmung"? Sounds strange to me. Any help appreciated!

Ich hatte es so verstanden, dass die Frage war, ob man "tree identification" als "Baumbestimmung" übersetzen kann. Von mir aus dann also auch: Er gewann in der Kategorie/Sparte/Disziplin Baumbestimmung. Oder: Er war Sieger/Bester in Baumkunde/Baumbestimmung.
So besser?

Halt, klar, da ist ja die Meinungsäusserung von British Diana. Sind nicht alle Kategorien an einer Olympiade ein Wettbewerb. Was denn sonst?

neutral  Hildegard Klein-Bodenheimer (X): Wenn man bei Olympia die verschiedenen Disziplinen nennt, sagt man auch "Hochsprung, Weitsprung, Kugelstoßen etc." und nicht jedesmal "Wettberwerb" dazu. Hier ist es genauso. Das ist hier in den Schulen eine riesige Sache, an der Monate gearbeitet wird.
