see below Explanation: I think that a "Marktführer" is ahead of the competitors in sales but not necessarily the leader in technological innovation. Example: Apple versus Wintel. Better in your context would be hochmoderne or technologisch führend or neueste or letzte or Stand der Technik/Wissenschaft, |

Marktführungsposition Explanation: Your context phrase will mean "Neuerungen (or: Innovationen) so vorantreiben, dass damit eine Marktführungsposition erreicht wird." Even though "innovations" usually relate to a technical context, as mccrosky says, the word "market" clearly refers to a sales environment, as Sabine correctly implies. |

see below Explanation: Let us look at Claudia's Apple reference again. The apple girls and boys clearly use the word leading-edge together with the word technologies but not with the word market. What Apple is saying is that they bring leading-edge technologies to the market. It is not a market leading edge but rather a leading-edge technology. Leading-edge simply means the same as other American modifying expressions used to describe technologies such as state-of-the-art and cutting-edge. Like I said above, better in your context would be hochmoderne or höchstmoderne or technologisch führend or neueste or letzte or Stand der Technik/Wissenschaft. "Marktführer" alone always means the competitor with the largest market share. Hamblock/Wessels says top seller. - http://product.info.apple.com/pr/press.releases/1996/q2/9602... - "In order to remain competitive at all levels while retaining our ability to develop and bring to market leading-edge technologies, particularly in the areas of multimedia, Internet, graphics and ease-of-use, we will continue building our strengths in the education, home, business, and other market segments." |
