neutral  Rolf Keller: "Verwursten" bedeutet das Gegenteil, nämlich das Verarbeiten von Material ZU einer Wurst, wobei es seine Identität verliert. "Das kommt in die Wurst" = "Dann sieht man nicht mehr, dass es eigentlich Fleischabfälle sind".

Generally, one would not use >sliding of democracy< unless it is indicated into what it is sliding (into anarchy, chaos, dictatorship??) . Among the given response I see >Verwursten der Demokratie< - that is not a term used in German (unless in some remote dialect); >Verfall der Demokratie< is fine, however I think >erosion of democracy< would capture the process of deterioration a bit better as it also implies that there are societal actors involved.
