I really don't think that's a typo. "protecting the CoR's presence" wouldn't make much sense to me in this context.

@ all: They want to be present / raise awareness of their presence at the regional / local level. And since the CoR is made up of regional and local representatives and "organises consultations with associations representing local and regional authorities and with subsidiarity monitoring network partners" (http://cor.europa.eu/en/activities/Pages/work-of-the-cor.asp... I'd say they have a presence in the regions. So I'm still sticking with "weiterin präsent sein" or "weiterhin Präsenz zeigen" in den betroffenen/relevanten Ländern.

Theoretisch möglich, aber im Licht dessen, wie der Satz weitergeht (aiming to contribute towards accession), halte ich das für unwahrscheinlich. Der Ausschuss bemüht sich in den Beitrittsländern sehr aktiv um die Entwicklung bestimmter Aspekte, die dem Beitritt noch entgegenstehen, und um die Zusammenarbeit mit regionalen Institutionen. Da geht's nicht nur um (Selbst-)Schutz.

Leider hast du den Link vergessen. Und für mich sind "sich kümmern um" und "präsent sein" zwei unterschiedliche Dinge.

Das deutsche Außenministerium kümmert sich z. B. um das Verhältnis zu Russland, ist aber dort nicht präsent.

Ich frage mich, ob der AdR tatsächlich in Nicht-EU-Ländern (Beitrittskandidaten) "präsent" ist. Womöglich klemmt da der Bezug im AT.
