English term or phrase: leaper

Question: You've enjoyed a successful career. Did you have a personal breakthrough that steered you into taking the right paths?
Answer: Certainly X "made" me. But that was definitely sheer luck because a classmate hired me. I would describe my career as one of small, incremental steps that I achieved by grinding it out. Basically, I'm a grinder, not a leaper.

Mir will einfach kein passendes Wort für "leaper" einfallen.

agree  Peter Downes: Überflieger fits nicely with high flyer although I have never heard an English starlet describe herself as a leaper,, after a couple of cocktails she might come across as a leper!!
