Mir geht es eigentlich um die Phrase "troublingly self-indulgent and slothful", für die ich keine befriedigende Übersetzung im genannten Kontext finde.

Explanation:
"etwas beunruhigend Zügelloses und Müßiggängerisches" wäre das Nächstliegende. Wenn es nicht so auf's Wort ankommt, könnte ich mir auch "eine beunruhigende Tendenz zur Zügellosigkeit und zum Müßiggang" vorstellen.
