Hallo allerseits und vielen Dank für die Antworten. Ich war mir gar nicht bewusst, dass meine Frage eine solche Diskussion auslösen würde. Die letzte Antwort von Ramey gefällt mir gut; ich denke, dass es genau so gemeint ist. (Was man persönlich von der Impfung hält, ist wieder eine ganz andere Frage.) Danke nochmals für die Hilfe!

but when whooping cough is treated with anitbiotics or even suppressed with vaccinations, the immune system is never prepared to fight it and once children have whooping cough (or cannot have it as a child), it can recur again and again. The weeks and months of whooping cough (we fought it for nearly a year because we HAD to treat the ensuing pneumonia with anitbiotics - killed the pneumonia, suppressed the whooping cough, which promptly turned up as soon as the pneumonia was 'cured') are an enormous burden for a child's body, but DO strengthen the immune system if withstood for the duration. Vaccinating is a HIGHLY controversial topic (our kids are not innoculated at all) that confronts all parents. I followed my homeopath's advice - vaccinate your child against all diseases that YOU are afraid of. Worked fine for us, but I don't judge those who choose to vaccinate, I just worry about the coming generations.

Hintergrund von "make count" ist wohl eher die allgemeine (und nicht aus Pharmakreisen stammende) Empfehlung an Haus- und Kinderärzte, jeden Patientenkontakt zu nutzen, um den Impfstatus zu überprüfen und ggf., wenn möglich, zu ergänzen (also sich auch, wenn der Patient "nur" wegen Bluthochdruck kommt, gelegentlich mal den Impfausweis zeigen zu lassen). Und auch wenn es zur Geschäftemacherei missbraucht wird, gibt es sicher genauso viele gute Gründe zu impfen wie nicht zu impfen - je nach Situation. (Gerade Keuchhusten stärkt keineswegs die Immunabwehr, Ramey, sondern sabotiert sie vielmehr; deshalb bleibt man ja bei dieser Krankheit auch wochen- bis monatelang ansteckend.)

Thank you for your explanation - so I did understand the message correctly (I was hoping that I got it wrong) - that makes me feel very uneasy. Should a pharmaceutical company be that blatant when addressing doctors? "Verbreiten Sie die frohe Botschaft - Boostrix!" (Yes, I am an old cynic. ;-))

Make every patient count - the idiom is actualy "make every moment count" as in living life to the full.

Geben Sie das (rettenden) Wort an jeden Patient weiter - Boostrix
would be a good equivalent, but you German ns's would know if it works better than I would.

Ich verstehe den Satz überhaupt nicht. Vermutlich (wie so oft gibt es keinen brauchbaren Kontext, wenn in diesem Forum Fragen gestellt werden) sollen mit diesem Satz Ärzte angesprochen werden. Sollen die möglichst jedem ihrer Patienten Boostrix verabreichen, damit bei dem Hersteller die Kassen klingeln?

Ich weigere mich eigentlich immer, für 50 Cent oder 1 Euro Übersetzerhonorar einen geschliffenen Werbeslogan abzuliefern, für den ein Werbetexter hundert- und tausenfach mehr kassieren würde. Kann aber natürlich jede/r machen, wie er/sie es für richtig hält - die Anmerkung ist eher zur "moralischen Unterstützung" gemeint, dass man sich vielleicht gar nicht immer so viele Gedanken machen muss.)
