English term or phrase: ground of obviousness
We have reviewed the proposed ground of obviousness".

Explanation:
A suggestion.

I assume your document comes from the US. (Ground of) obviousness is US terminology. The term used for the approximately equivalent concept in many other countries is lack of inventive step.

“Obvious to try” is a stratagem which can be used to try to knock out a patent on the ground of lack of inventive step, also known as obviousness.

Lack of inventive step (also referred to as ‘obviousness’) is the most common means of attacking the validity of a patent.

Obviousness is often referred to as “lack of inventive step” in foreign jurisdictions.

Thus, this particular 'ground' includes within its scope two of the most common attacks on validity: lack of novelty (ie anticipation) (EPC, Articles 52(1) and 54) and lack of inventive step (ie obviousness) (EPC, Articles 52(1) and 56)

However, the allegation that the claims lacked novelty in view of the closest prior art document could be considered in the context of deciding on the ground of lack of inventive step.

Somewhat too pragmatic and only obvious at first sight seems the relationship in the case of the fresh ground for opposition of lack of novelty with respect to the original sole ground of obviousness.

Thank you so much, Alison. I inquired with the client and they wanted Begründung der Offensichtlichkeit. I guess any invention or any part of an invention that is obvious to one skilled in the art is considered unpatentable. This frequently appears in this text as "it would have been obvious to one skilled in the art that...". Your suggestions make sense. But perhaps my client wanted to be as close to the source as possible
