Zuerst dachte ich, dass es sich um eine Schnalle handelt, aber das ist ja schon der "buckle" und ich denke damit wird der Einsatz im Stiefel beschrieben. Wäre "Einsatz" eventuell eine Lösung?

It is an elastic inset that makes putting on boots and shoes easier and makes them a tighter fit without the need for zips or laces. Sometimes decorated with straps or buckles.

Hunting boots with a long shaft and high-class Wellington boots often have a strap and buckle across the gusset to make them even tighter

Explanation:
Der Reißverschluss ist "verdeckt" und dadurch geschützt. Man findet das immer bei Reitstiefeln, die ja nicht am Pferdebauch scheuern sollen...
