Unlike other Dutch cities, this town’s pavements are made for pounding, not pottering.

Es handelt sich um einen Text über Rotterdam. To potter bedeutet wohl "herumschlendern", doch ich verstehe nicht, was der Satz über Rotterdam aussagen soll - was macht man denn dort auf den Gehsteigen, wenn nicht herumschlendern?

Explanation:
Ich denke, es geht in diesem Fall um "geschäftiges Treiben". Rotterdam ist eine Hafen- bzw. Industriestadt. Außerdem ist es ein perfekter Ort für Jobsuchende. In Rotterdam gibt es Möglichkeiten zum Flanieren (sogar ganz nette), aber die Stadt ist für entspannte Erholung/einen Urlaub weniger gedacht.
