Yes, I did. Και στα Ελ. δέν λέμε 'μιά λεπτή διαφορά' ή μιά λεπτή αλλαγή; Εδώ 'ομως λέγει 'shift', και όχι 'change'. 'Shift' denotes movement. So to be accurate and precise I said ' λεπτή μετακίνηση', but also agreed with 'αλλαγή'.

From what I understood, you said that διακριτικός means discerning, right? I pasted another definition from the lexicon. My apologies if I misunderstood.

George, I have not understood your comments about Triandafyllidis.
OK. I agree, the LITERAL meaning of 'διακριτικo' is 'που γίνεται αντιληπτό, που φαίνεται εύκολα' without the 'δεν', so why translate 'subtle' as somerhing that can be seen easily, or even 'it is obvious'.
I cannot understand your contention and Triandafyllidis. I hope that's not what you are inferring. Look up any dictionary.
Discern=διακρίνω. May be in Greek, it could mean that. But 'subtle' in English is a 'very fine difference' in two almost the same things.. Are you going to tell me that 'συμπαθητικός' στα Ελ. έχει την ίδια έννοια με το, 'sympathetic' στα Αγγλικά???

We are not talking of a Kafkaesque Metamorfosis expression. We are talking of an English expression as spoken, used and understood by lay people. If, I as a Greek, wanted to translate the Greek term 'λεπτή αλλαγή' to an English person, I would say 'subtle change'. SHIFT= μετακίνηση, SO SUBTLE SHIFT= λεπτή μετακίνηση. You have the right to your own opinion, of course.
