"Be poised to" σημαίνει, κατά το Αγγλοελληνικό του Σταυρόπουλου, "ζυγιάζομαι", "αιωρούμαι". Ιδού το δικό του παράδειγμα:

Επίσης, μπορεί να σημαίνει και "τηρώ στάση αναμονής προτού προβώ σε μια ενέργεια / προτού αντιδράσω", αλλά για την περίπτωσή σου πιστεύω ότι το "ετοιμάζομαι να κάνω κάτι" είναι αρκετό.
