The main characteristics regarding policies and methods in public participation in planning across the PICT countries may be summarised as follows:
„h In Greece public participation in planning decisions has never been implemented. Without doubt, regional and local governments΅¦ input in planning has increased in recent years, but without having the necessary financial resources, their role has been rather restricted to an advisory and consulting one. There is, however, some fear in giving more responsibilities and decision-making powers to local communities.
„h In the UK on the other hand, public participation is an established process with the local and the central government looking for new initiatives to encourage further development. Increased public participation is strong across the whole range of government initiatives, and professionals are increasingly being challenged to show that they have meaningfully consulted the public before significant decisions are made. On the basis of recent initiatives, such as the *planning portal* for e-governance, it seems that 2005 in the UK was an exciting and challenging time for planning.

neutral  Katerina Maniati: Εάν όντως αφορά τον πολεοδομικό σχεδιασμό (όπως πιστεύω, καθότι αναφέρεται στο ΗΒ όπου υπάρχει σχετικό σάιτ), δε μου φαίνεται ότι είναι σαφές με την προτεινόμενη μετάφραση. Δηλ. το θέμα είναι η απόδοση του planning όχι του portal.
