As the summer holidays are over and the new training semester has began, it is good time to look back at events which started 5 years ago and to overview ELC`s more important projects in progress. The Foundation and the Confirmation of the Foundation Articles The first constitutive meeting of ELC took place in Tartu, 2 June 1995. The minute of constitutive meeting was signed by Rait Maruste- the representative of Supreme Court, Paul Varul- the representative of Ministry of Justice and Peeter Tulviste- the representative of the Tartu University. In addition Eerik-Juhan Truuväli- Legal Chancellor, Aare Tark- Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Bar Association, Peep Pruks- dean of the Law Faculty, University of Tartu and John Russel Deane III and Erik Harremoes as the External Members of the Board of ELC (the highest institution of the ELC at the time). 11 July 1995, the constitution of ELC was confirmed and registered by the decree of the Government of the Republic no 260. Through a competitive selection process, Aavo Kaine was selected as Managing Director and started in this position on 16 August 1995. Michael Gallagher and Jüri Taalman joined as councilors. 19 June 1998 the new constitution of the Estonian Law Centre Foundation was accepted. 30 November 1998, foundation was entered in the Register of Non-Profit-Unions and Foundations. http://www.lc.ee/english/fiveyears.html -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2007-01-03 18:58:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The Estonian Law Centre is a non-profit organization, founded in July, 1995, whose highest priority is to provide a comprehensive program of legal training seminars to the Estonian legal community.
