However, drawings are not a completely open-ended form of representation. They require students to make their intentions clear through standard "equivalents" or simple symbols that stand for recognized ideas. For example, a triangle may stand for a dress or the roof of a house, depending on the context in the drawing. When asked to draw a figure, sociologist or not, students must usually present some form of anthropomorphic depiction - even if it is a stick figure that "stands in" for the more fleshed-out human form. While this may be a limitation of drawings, it can also be an asset as it delimits certain parameters.

agree  Natassa Iosifidou: Αυτό ακριβώς σκεφτόμουν (και έψαχνα :). Έτσι τα λέμε: ανθρωπάκια. Όταν λένε στα μικρά παιδιά "Ζωγράφισε μου ένα ανθρωπάκι" συνήθως εννοείται το γνωστό ανθρωπάκι με το στρογγυλό κεφάλι και τα χέρια/πόδια-γραμμές./Και από τα Ιταλικά: omino
